PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Wegovy is a prescription-grade injectable medication formulated with semaglutide, a GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) receptor agonist, designed for chronic weight management in adults. It works by mimicking the body’s natural appetite-regulating hormones, helping reduce hunger, control food intake, and support sustainable weight loss when combined with lifestyle modification. Wegovy is administered as a once-weekly subcutaneous injection, allowing for convenient long-term treatment adherence.

Wegovy activates GLP-1 receptors in the brain, slowing gastric emptying and enhancing satiety signals. This leads to reduced caloric intake and improved appetite control. Additionally, it influences insulin secretion and glucose regulation, contributing to metabolic benefits beyond weight loss.

PRODUCT COMPOSITION

One 0.5 mL pre-filled pen of Wegovy consists of the following ingredients:

1. Semaglutide – strength may vary depending on the type, but may range from 0.25 mg to 2.4 mg
2. Buffered aqueous solution
3. Propylene glycol 
4. Phenol 
5. Hydrochloric acid (for pH adjustment) 
6. Sodium hydroxide (for pH adjustment)
7. Water for injections.

PRODUCT INFORMATION OF WEGOVY 

Packaging: 1 box of Wegovy consists of 1 x 0.5 mL pre-filled pens, and the dosage strengths may vary from 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg, 1 mg, 1.7 mg, and 2.4 mg. It also includes 4 disposable needles.

Composition: Semaglutide, buffered phosphate solution, and stabilizing excipients, such as hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide, which adjust the pH of the product to maintain its stability during manufacturing and distribution processes.

Injection depth: Wegovy is delivered via subcutaneous injection to increase absorption effectiveness.

Recommended Dose: Start at 0.25 mg for weeks 1 to 4, then increase the dose to 0.5 mg at the 5th to 8th week, signifying the step-up dosing stage of the treatment. Still included in the step-up dosing stage, increase the dose to 1 mg for weeks 9 to 12. At this point, effects are noticeable, and maximum results are reached. To sustain the effects, maintenance dosing is highly recommended, where either 1.7 mg (for weeks 13-16 or longer) or 2.4 mg (the maximum dose that can be given and administered for week 17 and onward) dosing strength can be used. 

Treatment interval: Once weekly for 12 weeks, beginning with a starting dose and two step-up doses for maximum results. Maintenance treatment sessions are encouraged to sustain the effectiveness of Wegovy.

How to Use: It is essential to note that only a professional is recommended to give Wegovy. Here are the steps on how to use Wegovy:

1. Carefully check the label and product appearance. If there are no issues with the product, treatment can now proceed.
2. Attach a new needle for sterile purposes
3. If it is the first use, checking the flow of the Wegovy Pen is a must.
4. Select the prescribed dose needed for that stage of the treatment session
5. While injecting the dose into the target area, count slowly from 1 to 6
6. Then remove the needle to store the pen

Storage: New, unused Wegovy Pens can be stored in the refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C.  Used Pens can be stored at 59°F to 86°F (15°C to 30°C) or in a refrigerator at 36°F to 46°F (2°C to 8°C) for a maximum of 30 days.
