Deoxycholic acid, which is usually present in the bile acid, can naturally emulsify fat for easy absorption in the intestine. Synthetically derived deoxycholic acid disrupts the cell membrane and causes adipic cytolysis to stimulate the target decomposition of fat cells. The effects of deoxycholic acid limit itself to the subcutaneous fat layer. This is due to the layer lacking in protein, as albumin and other tissue-related proteins significantly reduce the action of deoxycholic acid.
